Community Group

Community engagement commenced in early 2007 with a visioning workshop and since that time the community has spent many thousands of volunteer hours helping to create a plan to realise that vision.

Today, a true community partnership exists and community is involved at all levels of the project, represented on the Community Leadership Group, Alliance Leadership Team, the Board, Precinct Specific Groups and all working groups. Community representation and participation is multifaceted, and representation is across all sectors with active participation from local elected members, community and not for profit organisations, schools, clubs and individuals.

What is the Community Leadership Group and what does it do?

The Community Leadership Group oversees the city development that safeguards community assets and will eventually ensure a smooth transition to living in the new city.  At these meetings an update on the planning and development of the city is presented and guest speakers are invited to present on topics relevant to the community and the project.

As the Stirling Alliance has an open door policy, everyone is welcome to attend the Community Leadership Group.

See the Community Leadership Group Terms of Reference (PDF) for more information.

See Partnership Governance to see how the Community Leadership Group fits into the Stirling Alliance structure.

Precinct specific groups

Precinct specific groups comprise local residents who regularly meet to discuss the particular planning for their own area. These meetings give the community the opportunity to:

  • have your say,
  • discuss issues direct with our planners and senior consultants; and
  • have an impact on outcomes.

These meetings will be advertised when they are organised. See precinct pages for Woodlands, Innaloo, Station, Southern, Osborne Park and Northern for area specific information.

On-going community consultation

The Stirling City Centre Alliance continues to work with the community to ensure that their aspirations and requirements are considered in all stages of planning.

We understand the local community has a lot invested in the place where they live and their active involvement in the creation of the city is vital.  The Stirling City will only grow to become the vibrant green city of our vision if it is supported by its community, providing local knowledge, sharing the aspirations for the future and assisting during the transition period ensuring benefits are for all citizens and businesses both existing and new.

The work of the community falls across the three areas of place planning, place development and place management:

Place Planning

Place planning is about the community being actively involved in the development and assessment of concepts that will help deliver the vision whilst retaining all the things that makes their community a good place to live.

Place Development

Place development is just commencing with the community actively pursuing landscape and place making activities that will improve the local area and signify that change is on the way.

Place Management

Place management is about community managing the impacts of change and helping in the transition phase while considering lifestyle and sustainable living issues.
